Installing as an App
Herding Cats uses a technology called “progressive web apps” (PWAs) to be usable from any browser like a normal website, but also be installable on most devices and operating systems like an app. Sometimes this is called “Add to home screen”. How exactly you install the app depends on your browser and operating system.
How to install
- For Chrome on desktop or mobile, here’s the official documentation from Google.
- For Edge on desktop, here’s the official documentation from Microsoft.
- For Safari on desktop, use the share sheet → Add to dock.
- For Safari on mobile, use the share sheet → Add to Home Screen.
- For other browsers (Opera, Vivaldi etc), there should be help documentation for “how to install progressive web apps” that you can search for.
- Firefox doesn’t support standalone PWAs without installing a third-party extension.

App stores?
You can’t get Herding Cats through an app store (yet), because it’s expensive and complicated, and app store review processes mean new features can’t get to you as quickly. Let us know if that’s something you really want or need.
