Dependencies

Sometimes, you can’t do a task until you’ve finished one or more other tasks. For example, you can’t publish your blog post until you’ve drafted it, edited it, and chosen the title.

This relationship between tasks is represented in Herding Cats by the “Depends on…” field on a task. If you can’t do this task until another task is done, this task “depends on” the other task.

You can see the tasks which this task depends on, and which tasks require this task on its individual task page.

You can remove a dependency from a task by going to edit the task, then clicking or tapping the name of the dependency you want to remove.

Blocked tasks

A task is “blocked” if one or more of the tasks it depends on are currently incomplete. Blocked tasks are not available, and appear dimmer when they appear in lists. They show the blocked tag.

A task is automatically un-blocked when all the tasks it depends on are complete. At this point, it will reappear in your main list.
